Sarah Ferguson paid tribute to her “sissy,” Lisa Marie Presley at Graceland
Sarah Ferguson was on hand to speak at the star-studded Graceland funeral ceremony for her dear friend Lisa Marie Presley.
The Duchess, Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, spoke at the event on Sunday, sharing a few words from her late mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II.
“My late mother-in-law used to say that nothing can be said, can begin to take away the anguish and the pain of these moments, because grief is the price we pay for love,” she said. “And how right she was.”
Ferguson was responding to a statement issued by the Queen in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, which was subsequently repeated by Prince William when she died in September 2022.
Ferguson noted in her statements that she and Presley spoke to one other as “sissy,” and that she spent time with Finley and Harper, Presley’s two younger girls with her ex-husband Michael Lockwood.
“I stand here with great honor because we called each other ‘sissy,’” Ferguson said. “I’ve been with [Finley and Harper] for all your lives really and I stand here with great honor.”
Her speech also paid tribute to Presley’s other family members, including her mother, Priscilla Presley, and her daughter, Riley Keough, who disclosed for the first time that she had given birth to a girl.
“We look at Priscilla as a mother to Lisa Marie. We look to Lisa Marie, and say, you lost a son,” Ferguson said. “Mothers losing children—there are no words for it.
Today we talk about action, and action is the way we can go forward. For Riley, for Harper and Finley, and for the entire family, we march forward in support of you—all of us are with you and we will help you as best we can. If you put out your hand we will be there.”
Presley and Ferguson reportedly became friends when Presley moved to England with Lockwood, after buying an East Sussex estate in 2010. “The two hit it off from the beginning.
They grew close and kept in touch even when Lisa Marie moved back to the United States,” a friend Ferguson told Entertainment Tonight, adding that Lisa Marie was “one of the few people who reached out to her during some of her difficult times.”
