Cory Allen, a former secret service agent who served Michelle Obama, recently offered insights into the former first lady’s genuine nature and warmth. Allen, who began his assignment with the Obama family in 2016, continued to protect Michelle after their White House tenure.

In a conversation with Katie Couric Media, as reported by Nicki Swift on December 11, 2023, Allen shared his admiration for Michelle Obama’s authenticity, which inspired his memoir, “Breaking Free: A Saga of Self-discovery by a Gay Secret Service Agent.”

He spoke highly of Michelle’s ability to be herself and the positive influence she has on people, saying, “I thought it would be amazing if I could make just a fraction of the impact she’s had.” Allen described both Michelle and Barack Obama as relaxed and caring, often showing genuine concern for their security team’s well-being.

Allen praised Michelle Obama’s welcoming nature, recalling how both she and Barack made efforts to connect with people around them, including him feeling valued by the Obamas even after he departed from the service. While their conversations were not overly personal, Allen highlighted the family’s approachability, noting Michelle’s knack for remembering people, including him, long after their professional relationship ended.

He also revealed Michelle Obama’s commitment to fitness, participating in challenging activities like 14-mile hikes in Malibu hills and SoulCycling sessions, despite the challenges posed by wearing protective gear. Allen’s reflections offer a closer look at Michelle Obama’s character, emphasizing her sincere connections with people and dedication to physical health.
