During a campaign visit by Vice President Kamala Harris to Phoenix, Arizona, a disruptive incident unfolded when a local woman allegedly targeted the vice president’s motorcade with red liquid. The event took place around 6 pm on a Friday, near the intersection of 7th Street and Southern Avenue, amidst Harris’ efforts to engage with the community and promote key political issues.

The individual identified as Anasilvia Gomez-Zamora, aged 30, faced immediate arrest following her actions, which led to charges including aggravated assault on a police officer, endangerment, and resisting arrest. According to reports from the Phoenix police, Gomez-Zamora was positioned on a sidewalk adjacent to the motorcade’s route when she projected the red substance, impacting the motorcycles of eight local police officers who were part of the security detail.

Sgt. Phil Krynsky said to Fox News: “The motor officers were able to continue the motorcade as they progressed through their route. Other officers in the area were able to locate and arrest the woman responsible.”

Despite the unexpected incident, the motorcade managed to proceed without significant disruption, thanks to the prompt response of the motor officers and the subsequent arrest of Gomez-Zamora by nearby law enforcement personnel. The police later confirmed that the red liquid posed no hazardous threat.

Following the incident, Gomez-Zamora was processed and booked into the Maricopa County jail but was released from custody the next day. This marked Vice President Harris’ fourth official visit to Arizona since assuming office, with this trip focusing on the “Fight for Reproductive Freedoms” tour, aimed at advocating for women’s abortion rights—a central theme in the ongoing presidential race.

The visit came in the wake of President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, where he emphasized reproductive freedom as a critical agenda for his potential second term, including a commitment to reinstating Roe v. Wade. This position stands in stark contrast to that of former President Donald Trump, particularly concerning women’s rights and abortion policies.

The Biden campaign’s spokesperson, Lauren Hitt, highlighted the stark differences between Biden’s approach to women’s issues and Trump’s historical stance, particularly in terms of language and policy, underlining the significant choices facing voters in the upcoming election. This incident in Phoenix not only underscored the heightened security concerns surrounding political figures but also reflected the intense polarization and passionate advocacy characterizing the current political landscape.
