Goldie Hawn has revealed the reasons behind her and Kurt Russell’s decision not to marry, citing the negative experiences of “ugly and hurtful” divorces as a factor.

The couple, who first started dating on Valentine’s Day in 1983, have a long-standing and successful relationship in Hollywood. Despite their enduring love, they have chosen not to formalize their commitment through marriage.

When asked about their choice, Goldie responded, “Why should we get married? Isn’t that a better question?”

In her explanation, the 77-year-old actress acknowledged the aftermath of unsuccessful marriages, describing them as messy affairs. Both Goldie and Kurt, 72, have firsthand experience of the complications that arise.

“We have been married, and when it doesn’t work out, it ends up being a big business. Somebody has to own something, and it’s always ugly,” she explained.

Goldie was previously married to actor Gus Trikonis from 1969 to 1976 and musician Bill Hudson from 1976 to 1982, with whom she shares two children, actors Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson.

Kurt was previously married to actress Season Hubley from 1979 to 1983, and they have a son together named Boston Russell.

During an interview with CNN’s Chris Wallace, Goldie reflected on the impact of divorces, emphasizing the financial costs, emotional toll, and negative effects on children.

“Somebody needs to ask, ‘How many divorces are enjoyable? How many divorces don’t result in financial losses? How many divorces make you hate the person even more?’ How many divorces harm children?” she questioned.

The conversation then turned to the unlikely possibility of Kurt and Goldie divorcing after four decades together.

“How can you be so sure?” Goldie responded.

The Hollywood star continued, expressing her appreciation for the freedom to wake up each morning and make independent decisions about their relationship.

“Relationships are challenging. They’re not always easy. We face various hurdles. We have our beliefs, disagreements, and agreements. So, I think it’s ultimately important to remain independent in our thinking, so we can maintain our individuality and have that sense of self,” she added.

Although Goldie and Kurt never married, they welcomed their son Wyatt Russell in 1986, solidifying their commitment and love for each other in their own unique way.
