Prince Andrew catches lifeline to keep royal lodge longer, reports say
Prince Andrew is standing firm in his decision to remain at the Royal Lodge, despite significant cuts to his security arrangements. The Duke of York, who recently lost his taxpayer-funded security, is making compromises to ensure he can continue living in his cherished home. Prince Andrew catches a lifeline to keep Royal Lodge longer by adapting to the new security measures, which allow him to maintain his residence while addressing financial concerns.
According to a source who spoke with Express, the decision to discontinue Andrew’s private security team was driven by cost concerns. “The only reason the private security team has been discontinued is due to costs,” the source explained. “There was a proposal put forward for when this contract comes to an end in October, but it was too high.”
To address the security concerns without incurring prohibitive costs, a new plan was devised. “Discussions were had about using a mobile security team, which still means the property [Royal Lodge] will have round-the-clock protection, regular patrols, and they will always be on call,” the source added. This mobile service, paired with a new security system inside the property, is intended to provide adequate protection at a fraction of the cost, with the expenses no longer covered by taxpayers.
In addition to these measures, Prince Andrew will continue to benefit from the broader security presence on the Windsor estate. “The Windsor estate also has a number of other royal residences and there is a constant police presence in the area,” the source noted. “Although they are not officially assigned to Andrew, they will respond if there is a serious issue.”
Despite the changes, Prince Andrew remains committed to staying at Royal Lodge, a residence he holds dear. The adjustments in security reflect a compromise that allows him to maintain his home while adapting to the new financial realities. As the Duke of York navigates these changes, it’s clear he is determined to hold his ground, ensuring that Royal Lodge remains his sanctuary.
