The predicted ketchup hit the wall late Sunday night as former President Donald Trump unleashed a social media outburst targeting Vice President Kamala Harris. This tantrum came just hours after Fox News polls indicated Harris leading Trump in key swing states.

Instead of addressing the unfavorable polls from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, Trump fixated on a Fox News pundit’s scathing remarks about Harris. The pundit, Mark Levin, labeled Harris a “blithering idiot,” a “rabid Marxist scholar,” and even accused her of infanticide.

“Here she (Kamala Harris) is basically comparing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) to the perception of the Ku Klux Klan,” Levin railed, adding, “The combination of stupidity and arrogance is on full display, right here.”

Trump’s late-night fury began at 11:15 p.m., flooding his social media with five video clips of Levin’s rants within a span of 20 minutes. Levin’s tirades primarily attacked Harris’s views on immigration, abortion, and police reform. “She does not believe in capitalism, she does not believe in freedom, she does not believe in the declaration,” Levin asserted. “That’s a prescription for tyranny!”

These broad and vague accusations emerged as the Trump campaign grappled with finding a coherent strategy to counter Harris. Trump, who previously underestimated the possibility of facing Harris in the presidential race, now resorts to ethnically charged stereotypes and baseless criticisms.

As Harris strengthens her position as the prosecutor against Trump, a convicted felon, and his running mate Sen. J.D. Vance, Trump has avoided participating in presidential debates. Instead, he continues to criticize President Joe Biden in speeches that political analysts believe reveal internal campaign struggles.

Levin’s efforts to undermine Harris included selectively edited clips of her Senate speeches on human equity and immigration policies. In one instance, Levin showcased Harris questioning Ronald Vitiello, then acting director of ICE. When Vitiello attempted to interrupt, Harris responded calmly, “I’m not finished,” before continuing her point—an element Levin conveniently omitted. “Obviously she speaks Spanish, so she’s talking to all the Mexicans,” Levin commented. “She’s full of it.”

As Trump’s social media tirade continued, it became clear that his focus on attacking Harris rather than addressing substantive policy issues might be a reflection of his campaign’s desperation. The latest Fox News polls show Harris not just holding her own but leading in critical battleground states, leaving the Trump camp scrambling for a new angle of attack.
