Donald Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba, is facing backlash after expressing admiration for right-wing influencer Andrew Tate, who is currently facing human trafficking charges in Romania. Habba, who has represented Trump in high-profile cases, including the E. Jean Carroll sexual abuse lawsuit, made the controversial remarks during a Friday appearance on Benny Johnson’s podcast, according to PennLive.

Tate, a former kickboxer with a history of misogynistic statements, and his brother Tristan have denied the trafficking allegations. However, their legal troubles and controversial reputations have drawn widespread criticism.

On the podcast, Habba addressed Tate directly, saying, “Hey… Nice to meet you! I’m a big fan!” She compared his anger to Trump’s, saying, “I think that your anger is the same that President Trump has for our country. And the time is now for us to stop being wimps. I think that’s exactly the right sentiment.”

Habba further expressed sympathy for Tate, drawing parallels between his legal battles and those of her client. “I also have to say that I sympathize with you because I think you go through a lot of the same ‘show me the person, I’ll find the crime’ that President Trump has gone through,” she added.

The remarks sparked a wave of criticism from across the political spectrum. Writer and activist Lucy Brown called Habba’s comments “alarming,” adding, “Supporting a man accused of rape and human trafficking — including minors — will damage the MAGA movement irreparably. Shocking lack of judgment from a lawyer.”

Ex-Muslim activist Ridvan Aydemir labeled the comments “disgusting.” Republicans opposed to Trump also condemned the remarks, noting that Habba had reportedly “specifically requested to be on the show after learning that the creepy Andrew Tate would be there.” The group concluded, “This is MAGA.”

Even within the MAGA movement, the comments drew ire. The popular MAGA account The Misfit Patriot tweeted, “MAGA has an Andrew Tate problem and it’s a big f—– problem.” The account warned, “Y’all better wake the f—- up and see what he’s doing before he ruins everything we’ve worked for. Stop acting like a dog who finally caught the car. We still have work to do and you’re f—– up.”

Habba’s comments highlight growing divisions within the MAGA movement as controversial figures like Tate are embraced by some and rejected by others, raising questions about the movement’s direction and public perception.
