Following Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election, he and his wife, Melania Trump, are preparing for a return to the White House. As Donald delivered his victory speech early Wednesday morning in West Palm Beach, Florida, Melania stood by his side. Yet, some observers, including body language expert Darren Stanton, believe that Melania’s demeanor and body language reveal a reluctance toward resuming her role as First Lady.

Stanton analyzed Melania’s appearance at the Florida voting booth, noting that her attire and posture conveyed a lack of enthusiasm. As reported by The Mirror, Stanton described Melania’s behavior as distant and uninvested, saying, “Melania is a strange fish. She has always looked as though she didn’t want to be First Lady, and it is clear from this that she doesn’t want to be First Lady again.”

Stanton pointed out that rather than positioning herself closely beside her husband with supportive gestures, Melania faced the media directly with her hands by her sides, a stance he interpreted as passive and disengaged. Her expressions, Stanton observed, appeared neutral, with little indication of warmth or joy. He suggested that Melania’s choice to remain distant, both physically and emotionally, underscored her apparent disinterest in reclaiming her former role.

“The whole message it delivers is one of ‘I don’t want to be here,’” Stanton remarked, likening her behavior to that of someone reluctantly attending a gathering. Stanton further noted that Melania’s outfit seemed deliberately understated, blending in with the background—a rare move for the typically fashion-forward former First Lady. According to Stanton, her appearance gave the impression of “someone being wheeled out to face the world”, as reported by the Daily Express

Despite a few polite smiles during Trump’s speech, Stanton suggested that Melania’s expressions felt more obligatory than heartfelt, implying that her presence alongside Donald may have been more about public duty than genuine enthusiasm. While Trump addressed his supporters, celebrating wins in key states such as Pennsylvania, Melania’s reserved demeanor became a focal point for analysts.

Even as she smiled on stage, Stanton argued that her expressions lacked genuine affection, almost as if her gestures were a polite formality rather than a heartfelt display of support. During his victory speech, Trump publicly expressed his gratitude to Melania, which drew cheers from the crowd. He also highlighted her achievements, noting that she is now the author of a national bestseller.

After briefly kissing her on the cheek, Trump returned to the stage and spoke about Melania’s dedication to her work and her impact on the people around her. He reminded the audience of her historic role as the first foreign-born First Lady in nearly 200 years, a notable achievement that added to her unique status in U.S. history, as reported by USA Today.

As the Trumps prepare for their return to Washington, Melania’s apparent reluctance has left some questioning how she will approach her role in the White House this time. Despite her neutral demeanor, her presence alongside Trump remains a part of his public image. Whether her body language truly reflects her feelings about another term in the White House or is simply a matter of interpretation, Melania’s influence on the Trump presidency, and her approach to the role, will continue to draw attention as they step back into the national spotlight.
