MAGA Voices Erupt in Criticism of Biden’s Farewell Address, Slamming Legacy and Policy Moves
The fiery rhetoric that has defined MAGA criticism of President Joe Biden since the start of his administration flared anew during his farewell address Wednesday night. As Biden spoke from the Oval Office to close out his single term in office, conservative voices erupted across social media, leveling harsh critiques and mockery.
“President Biden leaves behind a lasting legacy of INCOMPETENCE,” declared Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI) on X (formerly Twitter). “Bidenflation has wreaked havoc on our wallet.”
Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) echoed the sentiment, chastising Biden for prioritizing climate change over what he viewed as more pressing issues. “Joe Biden mentions climate hysteria ahead of actual priorities, like border security, lowering costs, and peace through strength,” Mullin posted to his followers. “They never learn.”
Even as Biden’s speech touched on themes of unity and accountability, it became fodder for political jabs. Disgraced former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) used the occasion to criticize former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. “Joe Biden just gave a speech criticizing the extreme power held by a small group of people. And he called to end congressional stock trading. Take that, @SpeakerPelosi!” he wrote.
Actor and conservative activist Kevin Sorbo also weighed in, deriding Biden’s frequent calls for wealthy Americans to pay their “fair share.” Sorbo accused Biden of enriching himself and his allies during his presidency, claiming, “Biden held office for four years and used his power to launder money into his and his friends’ pockets.”
Republican scrutiny of Biden’s family business dealings added to the furor, with GOP investigators spotlighting a $40,000 check linked to Hunter Biden’s business engagements with a Chinese firm. However, as noted by independent reviews of bank records, no evidence has emerged to show Joe Biden’s involvement or awareness of the transaction’s origins, told Poynter.
Biden’s proposals for Supreme Court ethics reforms and a Constitutional amendment to remove immunity protections for former presidents also sparked backlash. Conservative commentator Katie Pavlich accused Biden of undermining the judiciary. “After saying we need to respect institutions, Biden calls for the dismantling of the Supreme Court through Democrat-driven ‘ethics reforms,’” she wrote.
Adding to the criticism, MAGA influencers targeted Biden’s recent decision to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to billionaire George Soros. Conservative commentator Greg Price quipped, “Biden: ‘I want to warn the country [about] concentrated power in the hands of a few ultra-wealthy people.’ Last week, he gave our nation’s highest civilian honor to George Soros.”
As Biden departs office, the scorn of MAGA conservatives underscores the deep divisions that have marked his presidency. His legacy, as framed by his critics, remains a lightning rod for anger and distrust on the political right.
