A teenager has confessed to murdering his mother, father, and sister in a fit of rage after his parents took away his mobile phone. The gruesome incident occurred in Vila Jaguara, São Paulo, Brazil. Police officer Isac Tavares Santos, 57, was shot dead with his own gun before the same weapon was used against Leticia Gomes Santos, his adopted daughter when she heard the commotion in the kitchen and went to investigate.

The 16-year-old suspect, who is currently in custody, reportedly confessed to the police after surrendering himself. He disclosed that he went to school as usual and then waited for his mother, Solange Aparecida Gomes, 50, to return home before shooting her as she walked through the front door.

The decomposing bodies of the three victims were discovered after the couple’s son, an adopted child, called the police late on Sunday night to confess to the crimes. The bodies had been lying dead for more than two days.

The self-confessed killer, whose name has not been released, told the police in a statement that he had planned the murders a day before committing the heinous acts. He claimed his parents had insulted him and left him unable to use his phone for a school presentation after confiscating it. Despite committing the murders, the teenager continued his routine, attending school, buying bread, and using the gym over the weekend as if nothing had happened, reported The Mirror.

Isac Tavares Santos worked as a police officer in Jundiaí, north of São Paulo, in the local council’s forestry division. A colleague paid tribute to him online, stating, “With deep regret, we mourn the tragic loss of Jundiaí Municipal Guard Isac Tavares Santos, his wife, and their adopted daughter. Isaac was a dedicated public servant, always committed to the safety and well-being of our community.

His departure leaves a huge void among his colleagues and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. At this time of pain and mourning, we express our solidarity and condolences to his family and friends. May God comfort the hearts of all who suffer this irreparable loss. Rest in peace, Isaac. Your legacy of service and dedication will never be forgotten.”

This tragic incident follows another case in February in northern Spain, where two children were held after their adoptive mother was found dead with a bag over her head in the back seat of her car. A 15-year-old boy was arrested and remanded to a young offenders’ institution while a 13-year-old, who was below the age of criminal responsibility, was identified and admitted to a children’s home.

The boys, born in Russia and brought to Spain as young children, were found in a park near their home after the police discovered the victim’s body. The grim details of both incidents highlight the disturbing consequences of family conflicts escalating to fatal violence. The communities affected are left grappling with the loss and the impact on the surviving members and the broader social fabric.
