Donald Trump has shared his thoughts on Taylor Swift in his upcoming book, Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass. In an interview conducted by Variety editor Ramin Setoodeh in November 2023, Trump discussed various aspects of his time hosting The Apprentice and delved into Swift’s political stance.

In the book, Trump questions Swift’s political authenticity, asking, “She is liberal, or is that just an act? Is she legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal.” Setoodeh pointed out that Swift is no longer a country artist, to which Trump responded, “Garth Brooks is liberal. Explain that! How does it happen? But he’s liberal. It’s one of those things.”

When questioned about Taylor, the former US president said, “She’s got great star quality. She really does.” Donald continued, “I think she’s beautiful — very beautiful! I find her very beautiful. I think she’s liberal.” “She probably doesn’t like Trump. I hear she’s very talented. I think she’s very beautiful, actually — unusually beautiful!” he stated. While talking about Taylor’s music, Donald replied, “Don’t know it well.”

Swift has been outspoken about her political views, especially in her 2020 documentary Miss Americana. She explained her decision to become politically vocal, saying, “Back in the [2016] presidential election, I was in such a horrendous place that I wasn’t going to pop my head out. These aren’t your dad’s celebrities and these aren’t your dad’s Republicans… I need to be on the right side of history.”

In a 2021 interview with Vanity Fair, Swift further elaborated on how Trump influenced her political stance. “As a country musician, I was always told it’s better to stay out of [politics]. The Trump presidency forced me to lean in and educate myself,” she added.

Trump’s new book, which will be available on June 18, explores his time on The Apprentice and includes his musings on various cultural and political figures, including Swift. The book promises to provide a unique perspective on Trump’s views and the impact of his presidency on American culture and politics.
