Shakira Carries Her Son At The World Cup Final
She performed at the opening ceremony of the World Cup and now Shakira is back again for the closing. The Colombian singer gave an energetic rendition of her song La La La (Brazil 2014) with Brazilian musician Carlinhos Brown in the Maracana Stadium for the final between Germany and Argentina.
Wearing a revealing red sequinned costume complete with feather tasselled skirt, Shakira brought the stadium down before bringing her little boy Milan onto the stage. The singer’s little one wore a green and white striped top and joined his mother after she went out into the audience to collect him from his father Spain defender Gerard Pique. The 37-year-old met his Pique, when promoting her 2010 World Cup anthem Waka Waka – Time for Africa.
Speaking ahead of the World Cup closing ceremony concert on Sunday she said she ‘will never forget that I met the love of my life at the World Cup.’ Previously speaking about her relationship to football, she said: ‘I have an intricate relationship with football for obvious reasons, and I truly understand what the World Cup means to so many people, myself included.’ For the Final, Shakira enlisted the help of Zumba creator Beto, who joined her at reharsals at Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro to choreograph her performance.
The Colombian duo first worked together in Bogotá in the mid-1990s on Shakira’s breakthrough album Pies Descalzos. ‘What an amazing experience to be here!’ said Beto, who traveled from Zumba’s headquarters in Miami to choreograph the dance moves to Shakira’s international hit. ‘I am grateful, fortunate and happy beyond belief to work alongside one of the most incredible and influential artists in the world.’
Also in the audience watching the final was David Beckham with his sons Brookyln and Romeo wearing Argentina shirts. In the stands, David sat with former Brazilian internationals Kaka and Pele and stopped to take photos with fans before the match. Also performing were Carlos Santana, Wyclef Jean, Alexandre Pires, Ivete Sangalo and Carlinhos Brown. -dailymail
