Rumors of Marital Strain Between Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi Amidst Real Estate Moves

Reports are surfacing that the marriage between Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi may be facing challenges. Over the past few years, DeGeneres has endured several controversies that nearly derailed her television career, but the couple had relied on their successful real estate ventures to weather the storm.
However, insiders now suggest that their relationship may be under strain as they reportedly face ongoing issues. In August, the couple sold their 10-acre estate in Santa Barbara County for $96 million to mining magnate Robert Friedland, after purchasing the property for $70 million in 2022. Despite their history of flipping houses, sources claim this sale was different because it involved what was considered their dream home.
“They just celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary [on August 16], but it wasn’t exactly celebratory,” said one insider. The source added that DeGeneres being home more frequently has strained their relationship. “Ellen being home all the time has taken a toll on their marriage. And Portia isn’t working much either. They’re always in each other’s faces, and frankly, they’re getting on each other’s nerves.”
The couple also owns several other properties, including a Bel Air mansion purchased for $29 million, a Montecito home worth approximately $14 million, and an $8.8 million Coldwater Canyon residence. But even with multiple luxurious homes, it seems the close quarters may be contributing to their reported marital woes.
Public reaction to the rumors of trouble in their marriage has been mixed. Some commenters sympathize with the financial pressures that may be impacting their relationship, with one person noting, “Ellen doesn’t have the same income that she had when she had her show. Paying mortgages, taxes, insurance, and upkeep on those mansions isn’t cheap.”
Others were less sympathetic, with remarks such as, “Ellen’s HUGE ego got in her way, and that is sad for anyone in any position,” and “Are we supposed to feel bad for them? Ellen did that to herself.” Despite the rumors, DeGeneres recently marked their anniversary on Instagram, sharing, “I will be celebrating my 16th wedding anniversary on the 16th of August in Minneapolis filming my final Netflix special.
What a day!!!” She added, “I’m so lucky to be loved by the most amazing person I’ve ever met. I love you, Portia. You’re my everything.” The couple, who have been married since 2008, continue to face public scrutiny as they navigate their relationship amidst ongoing challenges.
