Carrie Underwood Shrugs Off Marriage Concerns Amid New ‘American Idol’ Judge Role
Carrie Underwood is brushing aside concerns about her marriage as she takes on her new role as a judge on American Idol. The 41-year-old country music star is excited about her return to the ABC talent show and assures fans that her relationship with her husband Mike Fisher will withstand any challenges posed by the long-distance nature of the job, according to OK Magazine.
Insiders reveal that Underwood remains confident despite the physical separation required for her new role. “Carrie swears they can handle the long distance,” a source shared. “Their friends are anxious about how they’ll handle the distance, but Carrie is determined not to let it impact her marriage.”
Underwood and Fisher, who have been married since 2010, primarily reside in Nashville with their two children, Isaiah, 9, and Jacob, 5. Despite the demands of her new role, Underwood plans to be home as often as possible. “Carrie will be home whenever she can,” the insider said. “Kids need structure, so for the most part, they’ll stay at home while Carrie’s traveling.”
The source added that Underwood’s faith is a guiding force in her marriage, saying, “Long distance is always a challenge, but Carrie says their faith in marriage and in God is stronger than anything. She wishes people would stop worrying.”
Underwood’s return to American Idol coincides with her transition from a busy touring schedule. The couple has previously navigated long-distance challenges, particularly during Fisher’s career as a professional hockey player, and even after his retirement in 2018, they’ve made a point to prioritize their marriage.
“They had their share of struggles behind closed doors, specifically when Mike was still playing hockey and they were having a hard time balancing their careers and home life,” the source noted. “But they always find a way to reconnect when needed.”
Fisher, 44, remains actively involved in family life, with Underwood praising his hands-on approach with their sons. In a 2023 interview, she stated, “Mike as a dad is just super involved in our boys’ lives. It takes a team to support my crazy life, and Mike’s always running around doing charity work and other commitments.”
Underwood’s return to American Idol wasn’t without competition. The CMT Award winner faced lucrative offers from rival show The Voice but chose to remain loyal to the show that launched her career in 2005. On August 1, it was confirmed she would replace Katy Perry and join judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.
“She’s always felt loyal to American Idol,” an insider revealed. “Carrie feels she’s the best star to come from the show, and helping create another superstar will cement her legacy with it.”
