Adele Fiercely Defends LGBTQ+ Community During Pride Month Concert
Adele, known for her powerful voice and no-nonsense attitude, made a bold stand in support of the LGBTQ+ community during her “Weekends with Adele” residency show in Las Vegas on Saturday, June 1, 2024—the first day of Pride Month. The beloved singer was in the middle of her performance when she abruptly paused, reacting to what she believed was an anti-Pride remark from an audience member.
According to a fan-captured video, Adele addressed the heckler directly, angrily saying, “You come to my fcking show and say that Pride sucks, are you fcking stupid? Don’t be so f*cking ridiculous,” as reported by The Billboard. Adele didn’t stop there, doubling down on her rebuke by telling the heckler, “If you’ve got nothing nice to say, shut up, alright?” Her fierce defense of Pride and the LGBTQ+ community was met with loud cheers from the audience.
After the video went viral, a debate arose about what the audience member had actually shouted. A longer clip surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) suggesting the person may have yelled, “Work sucks!” instead of anything related to Pride. However, someone who claimed to have been seated near the heckler insisted that they did, in fact, shout, “Pride sucks.”
Regardless of what was actually said, fans widely praised Adele for her immediate and unapologetic response in defense of the LGBTQ+ community. One user on X wrote, “Gun fingers Adele coming out in defense of the gays iktfr,” while another commented, “If there’s one thing Adele gon do outside of sing a f*cking ballad down, she’s gonna cuss you out!”
This isn’t the first time Adele has confronted unruly audience members. She previously addressed the growing trend of concertgoers throwing objects at performers, warning, “Fcking dare you. Dare you to throw something at me and I’ll fcking kill you.” Adele has long been a vocal ally of the LGBTQ+ community, celebrating Pride Month in 2022 by wearing a rainbow flag dress during a Vegas show and waving a Pride flag at her Hyde Park concert in London. She also dedicated shows to the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting, expressing her deep connection to the LGBTQ+ community, saying, “The LGBTQA community, they’re like my soulmates since I was really young, so I’m really moved by it.”
Adele’s “Weekends with Adele” residency is set to continue through June 15, after which she will head to Germany for a short series of shows in Munich. Her latest album, 30, released in 2021, received multiple Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. The album’s lead single, “Easy on Me,” was nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Music Video, and won the award for Best Pop Solo Performance according to Variety.
