Meghan Markle’s ‘politically correct Californian’ nature was snubbed by Prince Harry’s pals, says Royal expert
Meghan Markle reportedly faced challenges fitting in with Prince Harry’s circle of friends due to significant differences in their ideologies. When the Duchess of Sussex was introduced to Harry’s Eton friends in 2016, she found their attitudes and behaviors to be at odds with her own principles and expectations, particularly regarding political correctness.
Royal commentator and author Tom Quinn discussed these dynamics in a recent interview, shedding light on how these ideological clashes impacted Meghan’s ability to gel with Harry’s pals. Quinn’s insights also reveal that Harry misses aspects of his life in the UK, adding another layer to the couple’s complex relationship with their former royal life.
Speaking about the issues, Royal expert Richard Eden reveals: “When Prince Harry started introducing new girlfriend Meghan Markle to his closest pals back in 2017, not all of them warmed to the American actress.”
Eden added: “Harry’s friends, after all, tend to be country sports enthusiasts with an earthy sense of humor, while Meghan is a politically correct Californian who practices yoga when she’s not sipping green smoothies or nibbling avocado on toast.”
He said: “As time goes by, Harry misses some aspects of his old life in the UK. Inevitably, the honeymoon period where everything in the States is new and exciting is coming to an end and Harry is looking back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles.
According to Quinn, the cultural and ideological gap between Meghan and Harry’s friends was evident from the beginning. “Meghan found it difficult to connect with Harry’s Eton friends because they didn’t align with her views on political correctness and other key issues,” he explained.
This divergence in outlook created a social divide that was challenging to bridge, impacting Meghan’s ability to integrate into Harry’s established social circles. Despite these challenges, Meghan and Harry have continued to forge their own path, focusing on their shared values and commitments.
Quinn also touched on Harry’s longing for elements of his previous life in the UK. “Harry misses his old life in the UK, including his close-knit circle of friends,” Quinn noted. This sentiment highlights the personal sacrifices and adjustments Harry has made since relocating to the United States with Meghan.
