Prince William Totally Snubs King Charles’ Most Trusted Advisor in Stunning Move?

Prince William has made a significant and historic shift in his legal strategy, opting to part ways with long-standing royal legal advisors and instead enlist the services of the lawyers who represented his late mother, Princess Diana, during her high-profile divorce.

The move marks a notable departure from royal tradition, as Prince William has chosen not to retain Harbottle & Lewis, nor Gerrard Tyrrell—both of whom have been trusted legal counsel to King Charles and other senior royals for many years.

According to royal expert Richard Eden, the Prince of Wales “wanted to strike out on his own” and “be his own man” when making this decision, signaling a personal and professional pivot as he steps more firmly into his role as heir to the throne.

Harbottle & Lewis has long been considered the go-to legal firm for the Royal Family, playing a pivotal role in some of the monarchy’s most delicate legal battles. Among their notable cases was the 2006 News of the World phone hacking scandal, in which both Prince William and Prince Harry were victims of illegal phone tapping.

The Firm’s reaction to William’s decision has reportedly been one of disappointment. The Daily Mail noted that Gerrard Tyrrell, in particular, is said to have taken the decision hard, given his longstanding role as a trusted media law advisor to King Charles.

This change in representation has drawn attention not only for its symbolic meaning but also for its practical implications. By turning to Princess Diana’s former legal team, Prince William is aligning himself with a legacy that speaks to independence and personal resilience — qualities that his mother embodied during some of the most challenging years of her life in the public eye.

Though details of the new legal team’s immediate role are still emerging, the shift underscores Prince William’s growing desire to define his leadership and legacy on his own terms.

As he continues to prepare for his future role as monarch, this legal change may represent more than just a switch in representation — it could be a clear message about how Prince William intends to lead the Royal Family into a new era.
