Prince William and Princess Kate have been advised that they have “an awful lot of work to do” to establish themselves as the Prince and Princess of Wales. James Evans, a member of the Welsh Senedd, emphasized the importance of the couple’s engagement with Welsh life and politics during a recent conversation with GB News.
Evans revealed that William and Kate are now hiring a new assistant private secretary dedicated to focusing on Wales. He explained that this role is not entirely new, as it was previously held by an advisor to the former Prince of Wales, now King Charles III.
“This isn’t actually a new role,” Evans stated. “It was a role that the previous Prince of Wales, our now King, had. He had somebody in place within the Palace who was actually advising on Welsh matters, was close to Welsh life, and close to Welsh political affairs.”
Evans expressed optimism about the Waleses’ decision to reinstate this position, noting, “It is very, very positive that the Waleses have decided to bring this role back because there has been a little bit of criticism that they haven’t spent enough time in Wales and haven’t really given the role probably the credit it deserves.”
While acknowledging that the couple’s busy personal lives may have contributed to their limited engagement in Wales, Evans emphasized the importance of their renewed focus on their roles. “But it is very positive to see them actually taking the role of Prince and Princess of Wales now more seriously, and I hope they find the right person to give them the advice that they are going to need if they are going to be more integral here to Welsh life and the Welsh public life as well.”
As William and Kate continue to navigate their responsibilities as the Prince and Princess of Wales, the hope is that they will deepen their connection with the people and politics of Wales, ensuring that their roles are fulfilled with the attention and dedication that the titles demand.
