Prince Harry is facing backlash over his apparent detachment from Sentebale, the charity he once held close to his heart. The latest criticism has sparked fresh speculation about where his priorities now lie and whether his royal legacy is slowly slipping away.
According to The Telegraph, Chief Khoabane Theko — brother of Prince Seeiso, Harry’s longtime friend and cofounder of Sentebale — didn’t hold back in expressing his disappointment. The chief said he was “perturbed” to learn that when Harry and Meghan Markle vacationed in Africa, they skipped a visit to Lesotho, the very place that inspired the charity’s creation.

While Harry has reportedly made two private visits to Lesotho since marrying Meghan, Chief Khoabane suggested it’s not enough, especially given Harry’s deep history with the region. “He’s a loved figure because of his openness, but his loss of interest has totally killed the spirit of Sentebale’s survival,” he said. “I haven’t seen him [Prince Harry] since he got himself married.”
Sentebale was founded in 2006 to help vulnerable children in Lesotho and Botswana, especially those affected by HIV. Between 2010 and 2015, Harry visited Lesotho four times. But it wasn’t until October 2024 — after a six-year absence — that he made a return visit.
Chief Khoabane recalled Harry’s passion in the early days. “When [Sentebale] was launched, I remember his words quite vividly, because he was very strong in saying ‘my mother, this place, her passion about Africa’ and all that.” That heartfelt connection seems to have faded, at least in the eyes of those who were once closest to the project.

Adding to the drama, both Harry and Prince Seeiso stepped down from Sentebale last month in a decision that blindsided many. The pair aligned with trustees who claimed the leadership of board chair Dr. Sophie Chandauka was “untenable.”
What once symbolized Harry’s commitment to continuing Princess Diana’s legacy in Africa now finds itself overshadowed by internal disputes and accusations of neglect. As critics question whether his new life with Meghan has distanced him from his roots, one thing is clear — the fallout from Sentebale has left a lasting mark.
