Prince Andrew is reportedly considering skipping the royal Christmas celebrations this year, citing tensions with King Charles over his residency at the Royal Lodge. According to new reports, the Duke of York and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, may use their growing family as an excuse to avoid the traditional Sandringham gathering.

Royal expert Jennie Bond speculates that the former couple could inform the monarch that they wish to spend the holiday season with their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, and their expanding families. Bond explained, “As families expand, life gets more complicated. And the Yorks now have two sons-in-law and four grandchildren to consider.”

The growing size of the York family has made it increasingly difficult to accommodate everyone at the Sandringham estate, especially with Camilla’s family also included in the celebrations. Bond continued, “So it is beginning to become untenable to have the whole extended royal family under one roof at Sandringham, especially with Camilla’s family to consider as well.”

Despite the ongoing tensions between Prince Andrew and his brother, King Charles, Bond noted that the King is “not a vindictive man” and would likely still invite Andrew and his family to the royal occasion. “Charles is not a vindictive man, far from it, and whatever has gone on between the brothers, I think he will always extend an invitation for Andrew and his family to share big family occasions,” Bond said.

However, with the York family growing, Bond believes this may provide Andrew and Sarah with the perfect reason to opt out of Sandringham this year. “Andrew’s own growing family will give him and Sarah the perfect reason to avoid Sandringham and surround themselves with their daughters and little ones. Beatrice and Eugenie are very protective of both their parents,” she added.

Bond concluded, “And you can’t help but think that life would be easier all round if the Yorks began to stage their own festivities at Christmas.”
