Meghan Markle’s recent appearance at a book event in California left royal fans divided. The Duchess of Sussex made a surprise visit to Goodmothers Bookstore in Summerland, California, where she joined her close friend Oprah Winfrey for a special book club session.

Meghan, dressed in a chic navy sleeveless jumpsuit by Club Monaco, paired with diamond earrings, spoke alongside actor Marco Leone and astrologer Dr. Jennifer Freed at the intimate gathering. While some fans praised Meghan’s minimalist style, others were less impressed with her outfit choice. Critics took to social media to voice their disappointment, with one user commenting, “What is her obsession with NO SLEEVES? And no color.”

Another added, “Why does she continually wear these shoulder-revealing clothes?” Others criticized the cut of the outfit, with one person tweeting, “Her stylist should advise her to wear a different length sleeve to avoid this look,” and another remarking, “Cut-off sleeves are 90s fashion.”

Despite the criticism, Meghan’s supporters were quick to defend her look, applauding her simple yet elegant style. “Meghan looks great in this jumpsuit and it fits well. Meg clearly doesn’t skip shoulder day!” one fan tweeted. Another admirer noted, “That’s a very flattering cut for her on top,” while a third simply said, “Love this jumpsuit on her! She’s looking FABULOUS.”

The event took place at Goodmothers, a bookstore co-owned by literary agent Jennifer Rudolph Walsh. Before the book club session, Jennifer highlighted the store’s dedication to showcasing local authors, including Meghan and Prince Harry. In an Instagram video, Jennifer showcased the bookstore’s “local authors shelf,” featuring Harry’s memoir Spare and Meghan’s children’s book The Bench, told the Mirror.

“We celebrate our hometown authors as if they were our hometown heroes because to us they are,” she explained. Meghan, who lives in the nearby Montecito neighborhood with Harry and their children, Archie and Lilibet, has been friends with Oprah for several years. Given their close relationship and proximity, it was no surprise to see the Duchess attend the event, which was just a short drive from her family’s mansion.
