Buckingham Palace makes big announcement about Kate Middleton amid cancer treatment

Buckingham Palace has announced that the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, will not participate in the upcoming Colonel’s Review, a key rehearsal event scheduled for June 8 leading up to King Charles’ Trooping the Colour ceremony. The news was confirmed by royal expert Richard Palmer via his X account, previously known as Twitter.

Traditionally, the honor of taking the salute at the Colonel’s Review falls to the Colonel of the Irish Guards. This year, the role was expected to be fulfilled by Princess Kate, who holds the position. However, due to her current health circumstances, she will be unable to attend.

He tweeted, “The Princess of Wales, who is expected to return to official duties only when given the all-clear by doctors after her cancer treatment, will not be taking the salute at the Colonel’s Review, the traditional rehearsal on June 8 for Trooping the Colour, Buckingham Palace says.”

Lieutenant General James Bucknall, former commander of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, has been appointed to take the salute in her stead. A statement from the Palace noted, “General James Bucknall K.C.B., C.V.O will carry out the role of Inspecting Officer on behalf of The Princess.”

The change in plans comes after a shock announcement in March when Kate Middleton revealed that she is undergoing treatment for cancer. The diagnosis has led to adjustments in her royal duties and public appearances as she focuses on her health and recovery.

The Colonel’s Review is a significant event in the royal calendar, serving as the final rehearsal for the Trooping the Colour, which celebrates the official birthday of the British sovereign. It is a highly ceremonial occasion, involving hundreds of soldiers, horses, and musicians who perform a parade in historical uniforms, making the absence of the Princess notable.

The royal family and supporters have expressed their well-wishes to the Princess of Wales during this challenging time, emphasizing the importance of her health and well-being over royal obligations. As Kate continues her treatment, the public and members of the royal household alike hold hopeful expectations for her recovery.
