Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have decided to refrain from making any political statements ahead of the upcoming U.S. presidential election. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have opted for a neutral stance, choosing not to publicly align with any political party as the big day approaches.

The Telegraph reported that while the couple is steering clear of direct political commentary, they did share a thoughtful message on their Archewell Foundation website, emphasizing the importance of civic engagement.

“Voting is not just a right; it’s a fundamental way to influence the fate of our communities. At The Archewell Foundation, we recognize that civic engagement, no matter one’s political party, is at the heart of a more just and equitable world,” their statement read.

Before marrying Prince Harry, Meghan was known for being outspoken about her political views, particularly her criticism of Donald Trump. She once referred to him as “misogynistic” and “divisive.” However, this time around, the Duchess has refrained from expressing support for either Trump or his current contender, Kamala Harris.

Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan have been vocal about their experiences within the royal family, including allegations of racism toward their son, Prince Archie. The couple now resides in California, where they’ve settled with their two children, Archie and Princess Lilibet.

As the U.S. presidential election looms, the Sussexes’ decision to remain neutral underscores their intent to focus on broader messages of civic responsibility and engagement, rather than taking sides in political debates.
