Woman finds man hiding undercoat in the backseat of her car while driving home

In a shocking incident, a woman was terrified to discover a man hiding in the backseat of her car while she was driving on a highway, according to police reports. The man reportedly had a coat draped over his head.

The incident took place in the early hours of Monday, near a Route 6 exit ramp in the Cape Cod community of Massachusetts. A patrolling officer from the Yarmouth Police Department came across a seemingly distressed woman standing beside a car, which he initially believed to be a broken-down vehicle.

The police statement shared on social media said, “As the officer approached the car, he saw a visibly upset woman trying to dial 911. She explained the harrowing experience to the officer.”

She reportedly had just departed from a friend’s house and didn’t observe anything unusual initially. However, her worry spiked when the light inside the car turned on unexpectedly while she was driving. A quick glance at the backseat revealed a man concealing himself with a coat over his head, said the Yarmouth Police Department.

Fear-stricken, the woman began driving erratically, causing the man to tumble out of the open rear door onto the road.

The Yarmouth Police Department, after a brief investigation, located the suspect – Jailton Dos Santos, a 36-year-old resident of South Yarmouth. He was arrested and charged with breaking and entering a vehicle at nighttime. The police didn’t share any information on the suspect’s intentions or why he was in the woman’s car.

The woman, fortunately, escaped the incident unharmed. In the aftermath, the Yarmouth Police Department took the chance to remind everyone to ensure the security of their vehicles, particularly during night hours, by locking them when unattended.
