Democratic Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer took the stage at Detroit Metro Airport on Wednesday during a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Governor Tim Walz (D-MN). Whitmer delivered a scathing critique of former President Donald Trump, questioning his trustworthiness and suitability for the presidency.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Whitmer stated, “We cannot afford another four years of Donald Trump.” Her remark was met with thunderous applause. She continued, “Let’s just look at his record. He did zilch on infrastructure but failed. He tried slashing Social Security and Medicare and repealing Obamacare. Thankfully, he’s a failure there too. He destroyed tens of thousands of manufacturing jobs, cut taxes for himself and his wealthy friends, and instigated the January 6th riot.

And of course, he bragged about Roe v. Wade falling. So, a second term of Donald Trump would be an unmitigated disaster.” Whitmer’s criticism extended to Trump’s character and reliability. “I mean, think about it. You wouldn’t buy a used car from this guy, how can you expect him to support the auto industry?” she asked, momentarily pausing as someone in the crowd required medical attention.

“You wouldn’t trust him to pick up the tab at dinner, how can you trust him with the world’s largest economy? You can’t even let him count his own strokes on the golf course. How can you trust him with the rule of law?” Her powerful rhetoric resonated with the audience, many of whom share concerns about Trump’s potential return to power.

Whitmer concluded with a rallying cry: “We can send Donald Trump packing again, and Michigan is going to do it!” The crowd erupted in another round of cheers, reflecting their support for Whitmer’s message and the Democratic ticket.

Whitmer’s address highlighted key failures and controversies of Trump’s presidency, aiming to galvanize voters and underscore the stakes of the upcoming election. As the campaign progresses, her pointed remarks serve as a reminder of the contentious political landscape and the critical choices facing American voters.
