“Oh, look, they have a spy in the audience right over there,” Trump said, directing the crowd’s attention to an individual. “He’s spying,” he added, drawing murmurs from the attendees. In his speech, Trump transitioned from labeling Harris as “not a smart person” to accusing her of being “disrespectful.” He also took a swipe at the media, mocking them as “fake news” for what he described as their fawning coverage of the Democratic presidential nominee, told AP News.
As he continued, Trump made a policy announcement that drew cheers from the crowd, promising that if re-elected, he would abolish taxes on Social Security payments. The crowd’s enthusiasm was palpable, but Trump quickly turned the moment into a jab at Harris.
“She’ll probably announce this on Friday, too,” Trump quipped, suggesting that Harris would copy his policy proposal. He then pointed out the supposed “spy” again, pantomiming someone taking notes and implying that they were relaying his ideas to Harris.
This odd exchange comes as conservative media figures have been pushing the narrative that Harris is mimicking Trump’s agenda. The claim has gained traction amid Harris’s rising poll numbers in key swing states, which have narrowed the margins of the presidential race to a nail-biting contest.
