Within minutes of the debate’s start, social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, exploded with reactions, particularly praising Harris for her poise and her direct approach in calling out Trump’s “lies.”
Many viewers, including celebrities, took to X to express their admiration for Harris’ performance. Her handling of Trump’s often confrontational style impressed so many that it became clear who the public felt was winning the debate.
Amid the buzz, Trump’s niece, Mary Trump, chimed in with a sarcastic suggestion for her uncle. “Pout harder,” she posted a quip aimed at Trump’s demeanor during the debate. As the debate progressed, viewers remained divided over the candidates’ policies, but Trump’s appearance, particularly his tan, also became a hot topic of discussion online, told The Mirror US.
Social media users quickly honed in on Trump’s distinctive complexion, reigniting jokes about his famously orange hue. “Look how orange you look… #Debate2024,” one user wrote, attaching a screengrab of Trump from the debate. The post garnered widespread agreement, with many chiming in with their own comments about his appearance.

Another quipped, “Smashing ur face in a bag of Cheetos and calling it a day.” The online debate about Trump’s tan was relentless, with one user noting, “He looked so orange,” while another slammed, “[Trump’s] fake tan is so bad omg.”
The speculation about Trump’s complexion isn’t new. Earlier this year, reports emerged shedding light on the reasons behind his distinct tan. Jason Kelly, a makeup artist who worked at the 2016 Republican National Convention, told Harper’s Bazaar, “I know exactly what he does to himself — the tanning bed, the spray tan, he wears the goggles and you can see the hyper-pigmentation around his eyes.”
Trump himself has addressed the issue in the past, attributing his orange look to lighting. Speaking at a Republican rally in 2019, he blamed energy-efficient lightbulbs, saying, “The light’s no good. I always look orange. And so do you! The light is the worst.” As the debate wrapped up, it was clear that Harris had struck a chord with many viewers, while Trump found himself once again at the center of both political and cosmetic scrutiny.
