President Donald Trump is receiving far better public approval than his predecessor Joe Biden regarding U.S. involvement in the Ukraine-Russia war, according to a recent poll conducted by CBS News/YouGov. CNN senior political data reporter Harry Enten shared the surprising update on air on Monday, March 3, particularly as tensions between the U.S. and its ally Ukraine escalated the previous week.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the White House on February 28 to sign a minerals deal and discuss security arrangements for his nation. However, the meeting turned contentious when Trump and his Vice President, JD Vance, expressed frustration, arguing that Zelensky did not appear grateful enough for U.S. military support. As a result, the deal was suspended, and Trump halted military aid to Ukraine.

Even CNN acknowledged that Americans overwhelmingly favor Trump’s handling of the Russia-Ukraine war compared to Biden’s approach. Harry Enten stated on Monday that public opinion shifted dramatically after Trump returned to the Oval Office, as reported by Fox News.
“I think the easiest way we can kind of just ask this is, ‘Do Americans like the way that Trump is handling his job and compare it to how they felt about Joe Biden?’” Enten said on-air while presenting polling data. “So this is the net approval rating. You look at Joe Biden back in 2024. He was 22 points underwater, holy cow! You look at Donald Trump.

It‘s just a different planet entirely. I mean, the gulf between these two is wider than the Gulf of America, or Mexico, depending on which side of the aisle you stand on. He‘s at plus two.” “So look, at this particular point, Americans are giving Donald Trump the benefit of the doubt,” Enten continued.
“He‘s doing considerably better than Joe Biden was doing on the handling of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and so on this simple question, I think Americans are saying, ‘Okay, Donald Trump is doing alright on this!’”

Network host Kate Bolduan asked Enten about public opinion on ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. He noted that 50% of those polled supported a swift resolution that would allow Russia to retain captured territories, while 48% favored Ukraine continuing to fight.
Enten emphasized the importance of the trend, as in 2022, only 31% supported a quick resolution. Netizens reacting on social media platform X credited Trump’s policies for the shift in public opinion. The following tweets reflect their perspectives.
