A past boast by Donald Trump is now returning to trouble Republicans, leaving them unable to escape the fallout, according to former attorney and current radio host Dean Obeidallah. Speaking on Sunday, Obeidallah, who hosts SiriusXM’s daily program β€œThe Dean Obeidallah Show,” discussed how Trump’s stance on women’s reproductive rights is creating significant challenges for the GOP as the 2024 election approaches.

During an appearance on MSNBC over the weekend, Obeidallah focused on Trump’s recent wavering on issues related to women’s healthcare, particularly in the context of his past statements. Obeidallah has previously highlighted negative aspects of Trump’s performance during the now-infamous debate with President Joe Biden, but his latest remarks zero in on a critical vulnerability for Republicans told Raw Story.

Obeidallah pointed to recent comments by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who publicly rejected Trump’s idea of an insurance company mandate on in vitro fertilization (IVF). According to Obeidallah, this rejection underscores the GOP’s awareness that they are in a precarious position regarding women’s healthcare.

“They understand they are going to lose badly in 2024,” Obeidallah remarked. “One of the main issues is Trump saying things like, ‘I terminated Roe v. Wade and was honored to do so.’ So this is coming back to haunt them.”

Obeidallah emphasized that the issue transcends politics, arguing that Republicans fail to grasp the deeply personal impact of passing laws that force women to carry pregnancies to term against their will. “It’s not a political issue. I don’t think Republicans get it; nothing more personal than passing laws in states that force women against their will to carry a fetus to term,” he stated.

He further criticized Trump for trying to downplay the consequences of such policies, pointing out that maternal mortality has increased in states where abortion bans are in place. “Donald Trump can’t lessen it. Maternal mortality has gone up in the states where those bans are, women are literally dying because of these policies,” Obeidallah warned. “So Donald Trump is empty, it’s the worst form of politics.”

As the 2024 election draws nearer, Obeidallah’s comments highlight a growing concern within the GOP that Trump’s past actions and statements on reproductive rights could lead to significant electoral losses, particularly among women voters.
