President Donald Trump took a break from the political spotlight to shine it on a member of his family, praising his 17-year-old granddaughter Kai Trump’s rising golf talent in a video shared during a recap of their recent trip to UFC 314.
In the clip, posted to Kai’s YouTube vlog, Trump commended her skill on the course and hinted that she may soon outplay even him — a notable nod from the president, who is well known for his love of golf.

“I just wanna say that I play a lot of golf with Kai and she’s a fantastic golfer,” Trump said in the video, which has quickly made the rounds on social media. “She’s a scratch player, which is amazing. I think some day in the not-too-distant future she’s gonna be much better than scratch.”
He added with a smile, “She’s doing well, and she wins a lot of matches. And some day she’ll be able to beat her grandfather, but I’m not sure when that’ll be… it might be a long time.”
Trump’s golfing accolades are well-documented. Most recently, he won the senior club championship at his Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida — a favorite course of his and a regular venue for family play.
Kai Trump, daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump, has been making her mark in the sport. In August, she announced her commitment to the University of Miami, joining the Hurricanes golf program. She shared her excitement on Instagram, writing, “I would like to thank my mom, Vanessa, and my dad, Don, for always supporting me through my journey. I would also like to thank my great team for getting me to this point.”
