Donald Trump faced a turbulent reception at the National Association of Black Journalists conference in Chicago on Wednesday. Scheduled for an hour-long question and answer session, the exchange was abruptly cut short by his team after just over 30 minutes.

The session took a tense turn when Fox News host Harris Faulkner attempted to ask Trump about Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation’s controversial plan for his second term. However, ABC News’ Rachel Scott interrupted, signaling an early end to the session, told The New York Times.

“I think we have to leave it there, by the Trump team,” Scott announced. “So, that is the last word. Thank you so much for coming and joining us. Mr. Trump: thank you very much. Thank you, everybody.”

Throughout the event, Trump faced a barrage of tough questions and an unwelcoming audience. He reacted by lashing out at one of the moderators, Rachel Scott, calling her “horrible” and “nasty.” His remarks came after Scott pressed him on the violence at the Capitol on January 6th, challenging his claims that nothing terrible happened that day.

“They were convicted by a very tough system,” Trump said, referring to those prosecuted for their actions during the Capitol riot, and promised to issue pardons. His response was met with boos and jeers from the audience. One attendee shouted, “That’s a lie! I was there!”

As the tension in the room escalated, Scott continued to press Trump on the treatment of police officers during the January 6th attack. The hostile reaction from the crowd only grew louder.

MSNBC’s Aaron Gilchrist later reported that the Trump campaign cited audio issues as the reason for cutting the session short. The campaign claimed these issues delayed the start of the talk, necessitating the early conclusion.

The chaotic event highlighted the deep divisions and strong reactions Trump continues to provoke. Despite the early end, the session left a significant impact, with the audience’s vocal disapproval and Trump’s contentious interactions with the moderators marking yet another turbulent moment in his public appearances.
