Trump Campaign Blasted Out Curious Payments the Day After Jan. 6 Riot – to Dozens Not Previously on the Payroll
Republicans are still investing millions into organizations involved in planning “Stop the Steal” rallies before the Jan. 6 insurrection.
The investigations into the events leading up to the January 6th riot at the Capitol continue to reveal new information about just who was engaged in the planning and staging of the “Stop the Steal” rally that preceded the attack on Congress.
As per a report in The Daily Beast published on Monday, Republicans are still throwing money at groups involved in the conspiracy. One such firm, Event Strategies, was the main company engaged to set up the protest that day and remains the Republicans’ go-to event company despite the connection to the violent events at the Capitol. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Trump’s fundraising organizations have paid the company almost $800,000 since the insurgency.
Make America Great Again Action, the super PAC previously run by Corey Lewandowski that was shut down last month over sexual assault claims contributed $31,358 on August 13th. According to the Daily Beast, the National Republican Congressional Committee paid the firm $3,675 for “facility rental” and $6,000 for “audiovisual/staging” in late June, and Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) paid the firm $200,000 and $7,038 in late August. Since January 6th, none of the other major event management firms on Trump’s payroll between October 2020 and the riot have worked for him.
The Trump campaign also sent out travel reimbursements to over 60 people the day after the Capitol riots, including many who had never been on the payroll before.
Public records also show a series of unusual payments on and around January 6th, including more than $25,000 in advertising paid to right-wing social media platform Parler by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), with one transaction on the day of the riot, according to The Daily Beast reports.
