Trump Allies Erupt After Back-to-Back Court Defeats: “Judicial Coup” and “Sedition” Claims Fly from MAGA Figures

Two major legal defeats handed down to President Donald Trump’s administration on Thursday triggered a furious response from prominent MAGA figures, with right-wing attorney Mike Davis and others lashing out at federal judges for issuing rulings they say threaten the president’s authority and political agenda.

The first blow came when U.S. District Judge James Boasberg sharply criticized the administration’s handling of deportation flights involving alleged Venezuelan gang members, calling their response “woefully insufficient.” In a strongly worded order, Boasberg demanded more transparency and accountability from the administration regarding its immigration operations.

Later the same day, a federal judge in Maryland blocked Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led in part by Elon Musk, from accessing Social Security records. The court determined that the administration’s attempt to tap into sensitive data lacked proper legal grounds, dealing another significant setback to Trump’s plans to centralize and streamline federal data access.

These rulings set off a wave of outrage from within Trump’s political base, with attorney Mike Davis leading the charge. “DC Obama Judge Jeb Boasberg is way out over his skis,” Davis posted on X. “He does not have the power to order the President and his team to provide this secret information that affects our national security. He has no need to know. Simply put, it is none of his business.”

Earlier in the week, Davis had already called on House Republicans to initiate impeachment proceedings against Boasberg. Following Thursday’s second ruling, he doubled down on his criticism.

“This is insane,” Davis wrote. “An activist Obama judge illegally rules the President’s staff cannot access information at an Executive Branch agency for the purpose of rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse. This is a clear violation of Article II, which gives the President all the executive power.”

Others in the MAGA sphere echoed his frustration. “Supreme Court’s inaction causing real-time judicial coup, part 78,” wrote Federalist editor and Fox News contributor Mollie Hemingway. Independent journalist Kyle Becker went further, stating: “These rogue judges are clearly violating their constitutional oaths. It might be time to dust off the old legal books and find the statutes on sedition and rebellion.

Make a few public examples.” As legal challenges mount, tensions continue to rise between Trump’s administration and the judiciary—setting the stage for more constitutional showdowns in the weeks ahead.
