“Reckless and Ruinous”: Trump Adviser Who Leaked War Plans May Be Ousted After Adding Journalist to Secret Chat

A senior national security adviser to President Donald Trump may soon be ousted from the White House following a bombshell revelation that he inadvertently added a journalist to a group chat where top-secret military plans were being discussed.

According to The Atlantic, just hours before the United States launched a series of strikes on March 15, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared classified operational details in a Signal chat that mistakenly included Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg. The chat reportedly contained sensitive information, including specific targets in Yemen, weapons to be used, and the planned sequence of attacks.

Goldberg said he had been added to the chat by Trump’s national security adviser Mike Waltz. The fallout from Goldberg’s report has now placed Waltz’s position in serious jeopardy, with Politico reporting that furious discussions are underway within the White House over whether he should be removed.

While no final decision has been made, the internal debate has reached a fever pitch. President Trump is expected to decide Waltz’s fate within the next 48 hours, reportedly monitoring media coverage and political reactions closely before making his call.

According to Politico, threads between staffers have emerged discussing how best to handle the situation. Dasha Burns, White House bureau chief at Politico, told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on The Source that some believe Waltz should resign voluntarily to “spare Trump” the fallout.

“Half of them saying he’s never going to survive or shouldn’t survive,” a senior administration official told Politico. “It was reckless not to check who was on the thread. It was reckless to be having that conversation on Signal. You can’t have recklessness as the national security adviser.”

The blunder has left some insiders fuming, questioning not just Waltz’s judgment but his overall competence in a high-stakes national security role. One source close to the White House didn’t mince words, telling Politico: “Everyone in the White House can agree on one thing: Mike Waltz is a f—ing idiot.”

As the White House scrambles to contain the damage, pressure is mounting for swift accountability. The breach has sparked wider concerns about how classified information is being handled by Trump’s top team — and whether those entrusted with national security are up to the task.
