Chaos on ‘The View’ as Hosts Explode Over Schumer’s Debt Ceiling Deal

A heated shouting match erupted on ABC’s “The View” on Monday as the hosts fiercely debated whether Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) should have backed the House’s continuing resolution.

The House of Representatives recently passed a six-month measure to raise the debt ceiling and ensure the federal government remains operational. Many Democrats opposed certain provisions of the agreement, including government funding allocations and staff reductions. However, the bill ultimately passed the Senate after Schumer threw his support behind it.

Democratic lawmakers have voiced frustration over Schumer’s rationale, particularly his argument that President Donald Trump would exploit a shutdown to fire more federal employees.

Co-host Sara Haines defended Schumer’s decision, saying he had to choose between “two awful options.” She acknowledged that Trump would have the authority to take significant actions in the event of a government shutdown.

“I love you, but I don’t buy that explanation from you or from Schumer,” countered Ana Navarro, a former Republican consultant. “Because they’re already doing that. They’re doing it illegally or legally — they don’t care.”

Navarro continued, arguing that defending the decision in court is meaningless if the administration ignores legal rulings. “Do you care that one has a leg to stand on in the courts that says this is not constitutional? Which I will stand beside and continue to hope the courts hold off. This is — take off all the guardrails and let them do whatever the hell they want.”

She also took aim at Schumer’s justification for supporting the bill, saying his concerns about Trump firing federal workers were misplaced. “It does,” Haines responded.

“They’re already doing that!” Navarro shot back. “So, it’s like me saying, okay, I’m going to get out of the shower, but I’m not going to stand in the rain because I’m already wet. They’re already soaking wet!” Haines tried to argue that the legal cases are still in court. “Pay attention to the court judgments. They ignore them!” Navarro fired back. “It doesn’t matter!”

Alyssa Farah Griffin weighed in, stating that federal workers are often used as bargaining chips during shutdowns. She argued that once a shutdown is in place, Republicans can maintain it as long as they want, securing government cuts without legal challenges.

Whoopi Goldberg mentioned that Schumer was set to appear on the show this week to promote his book, adding that she planned to challenge him directly: “Explain yourself.” However, The New York Times reported that Schumer has since paused his book tour. It remains unclear whether that includes his scheduled appearance on “The View.”
