Tuesday night on CNN’s AC360, political analysts Van Jones and Ana Navarro issued stark warnings about the dangers a second Donald Trump presidency could pose, praising former Marine General John Kelly for speaking out about his former boss. Kelly, who served as Trump’s longest-running chief of staff, recently broke his silence, warning Americans about the potential consequences of another Trump term in the Oval Office.

Van Jones, a former Obama White House official, described the situation as a “very sobering moment,” reflecting on Kelly’s warning and emphasizing the gravity of Trump’s potential return to power. “The worst thing that Kamala Harris could do, maybe bad tax policy. We may not have a Constitution by the time that someone like this is president with no guardrails,” Jones said during the segment, highlighting the unprecedented risks he believes Trump poses.

Jones continued by stressing the alarming steps Trump might take if given another term in office, suggesting that Trump’s actions could go far beyond the scope of what the country has experienced in the past. “The steps Trump would take if allowed to return to the Oval Office are beyond our ability to comprehend,” Jones told host Anderson Cooper.

For those watching at home, Jones urged them to reflect on Kelly’s remarks, particularly in light of the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling, which he argued could enable Trump to act without legal or constitutional restraint. “So, if at this point you are at home and you’re trying to figure out, ‘What should I do?’ Tonight should give you real pause,” Jones advised. He warned that Trump could become “a lawless president with no regard for our Constitution and people.”

Jones also pointed to the chorus of voices from military leadership speaking out against Trump, saying, “The joint chiefs of staff, the former chief of staff to the White House, are screaming and yelling, saying, ‘My God, do not vote for this man.’ That should matter to people tonight.”

Ana Navarro: Kelly’s Warning Is “Chilling”

CNN political analyst Ana Navarro, who has personal ties to John Kelly, echoed Jones’ concerns. Navarro explained that she knew Kelly and his wife well, having spent time with them in social circles in Florida, and described hearing his warning about Trump as “chilling.”

Navarro emphasized the significance of Kelly’s decision to speak out just two weeks before the election, underscoring his military background and dedication to duty. “It’s an extraordinary step for John Kelly to take 14 days before the election, trying to warn the American people,” Navarro said. She pointed out that Kelly, a man of gravitas and commitment to the chain of command, would not take such a step lightly.

She concluded the segment with a direct message to Republican voters who claim to respect the military and support law and order. “They’d better heed John Kelly’s words,” Navarro urged, emphasizing that his warning should not be ignored by those who value the principles of law and order that Trump could potentially undermine.

As Election Day approaches, Kelly’s outspoken criticism of Trump has added a new layer of urgency to the ongoing debate about the future of American democracy and the risks posed by another Trump presidency.
