U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is once again at the centre of controversy after reports revealed he shared sensitive military attack plans in a second private Signal chat, this time with his wife and brother.
According to The New York Times, Hegseth sent confidential details about strikes in Yemen to a group chat on March 15 that included his wife, brother, and personal lawyer. This comes shortly after he faced backlash for a separate Signal chat that mistakenly included a journalist and exposed similar classified information.

“The defense secretary sent sensitive information about strikes in Yemen to an encrypted group chat that included his wife and brother, people familiar with the matter said,” the report noted.
The new revelations suggest that while Hegseth was not the creator of the first group chat, which sparked the initial wave of criticism, he did create this second chat himself. The information shared reportedly mirrored the attack plans leaked in the earlier incident.
“Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared detailed information about forthcoming strikes in Yemen on March 15 in a private Signal group chat that included his wife, brother, and personal lawyer, according to four people with knowledge of the chat,” the New York Times report states.
Those with knowledge of the chat allege that Hegseth included key operational details, such as flight schedules for F/A-18 Hornets targeting Houthi positions in Yemen.
“Some of those people said that the information Mr. Hegseth shared on the Signal chat included the flight schedules for the F/A-18 Hornets targeting the Houthis in Yemen — essentially the same attack plans that he shared on a separate Signal chat the same day that mistakenly included the editor of The Atlantic,” the article explained.
The presence of Hegseth’s wife, Jennifer, a former Fox News producer, in the chat has also drawn attention. She is not a Defense Department employee, but has accompanied her husband on official trips and attended sensitive meetings with foreign leaders, raising concerns over protocol and national security.
