Pentagon Bombshell Leaked Threatens to Take Down Pete Hegseth

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, already under fire since his nomination by Donald Trump, is now “unlikely to remain in his role,” according to his former department spokesperson. The statement, made public on Sunday, adds to the growing list of controversies circling the Pentagon chief.

The warning came from John Ullyot, the former top spokesperson at the Department of Defense, who didn’t mince words when describing the state of affairs. Speaking to Politico, Ullyot said, “The last month has been a full-blown meltdown at the Pentagon.”

Ullyot’s comments are part of a report titled “Former Pentagon official warns department’s dysfunction could topple Hegseth.” The piece lays out an increasingly chaotic picture within the Department of Defense, with Ullyot saying, “The building is in disarray under Hegseth’s leadership … The dysfunction is now a major distraction for the president, who deserves better from his senior leadership.”

The report surfaced on the same day Hegseth was revealed to have been involved in a second unsecured Signal chat where sensitive military plans were allegedly shared. The revelation sparked fresh criticism, with the Defense Secretary mocked for yet another apparent security lapse.

Ullyot, who resigned from his post just last week, didn’t hold back. According to Politico, he “described a department in collapse” and directly challenged claims made by Hegseth’s team regarding the firing of three top officials. He stated they had not leaked classified information to the press, as had been alleged.

He also criticised the department’s handling of the fallout from Hegseth’s Signal messages and pointed to several other embarrassing leaks that have recently plagued the administration.

In what many see as a serious blow to Hegseth’s standing, the report says the accusations are coming from someone who, until two days ago, was still part of the leadership and claims to support the Trump administration’s national security goals.

Despite his continued backing of broader policy goals, Ullyot’s sharp remarks have intensified scrutiny of Hegseth’s leadership and raised real questions about how much longer he can hang on. With accusations of internal backstabbing, dysfunction, and security failures, the Pentagon appears to be battling more than just external threats.
