“Day of Love” Remark Sparks Doubt as Town Hall Participant’s Reaction Goes Viral
A participant at a town hall on Wednesday night became an internet sensation when his skeptical head bob during former President Donald Trump’s remarks about the January 6 riot turned into a viral meme. The event, hosted by Univision Noticias, featured Trump answering questions from voters, including Ramiro González, a construction worker from Tampa, Florida, who expressed serious doubts about supporting Trump again.
González explained his concerns about Trump’s actions, or lack thereof, during significant moments of his presidency, particularly January 6 and the handling of the coronavirus pandemic. “Your action and say, maybe, inaction, during your presidency and last few years … was a little disturbing to me.
What happened on January 6 and the fact that you waited so long to take action while your supporters were attacking the Capitol?” González said, adding, “I thought the public was misled during the coronavirus. And I feel many more lives could’ve been saved if we had been informed better.”
He also pointed out that many of Trump’s former allies had distanced themselves from the former president. “So why would I want to support you?” he asked. In response, Trump claimed that “97 percent of people in his administration” still support him, dismissing the defectors as individuals seeking publicity because of his fame.
He attempted to justify the events of January 6 by saying that hundreds of thousands of people had gathered at the Capitol because they believed the election was “rigged.” Trump reiterated that he had instructed his supporters to act “peacefully and patriotically,” insisting, “Nothing done wrong at all.”
As Trump acknowledged that a “tiny” percentage of protesters rioted, he quickly shifted his tone, referring to the event as a “day of love.” González’s reaction to Trump’s characterization was immediate. His head bobbed from side to side, a clear display of disbelief that quickly went viral on social media, with many viewers resonating with his skepticism.
Social media erupted with reactions to the moment. Democratic consultant Holly Figueroa O’Reilly posted on X, “THE HEAD BOB,” with three laughing emojis, while former Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) commented, “His brain is mush.”
Others were quick to chime in as well. “Look at the women in the background as Trump’s spewing all this BS,” wrote Amy McGrath, former U.S. Senate candidate in Kentucky, and USA Today columnist Rex Huppke joked, “Siri, show me a dude who is ABSOLUTELY not buying the bulls— Trump is peddling.”
The exchange, along with González’s viral reaction, highlighted the growing skepticism among some voters, as even audience members visibly questioned Trump’s portrayal of the January 6 riot.
