President Donald Trump called for MSNBC hosts Nicolle Wallace and Rachel Maddow to be “forced to resign” during a fiery Oval Office rant to reporters on Thursday. Trump’s anger was fueled by both hosts’ criticism of a moment in his address to Congress earlier this week, during which he honored a 13-year-old cancer patient by inducting him as an honorary Secret Service agent.
“For the record – and this is disgusting – the president made a spectacle out of praising a young man who’s thus far survived pediatric cancer – as if the president had something to do with that,” Maddow said during her broadcast. Wallace, meanwhile, criticized Trump’s decision to spotlight law enforcement, drawing attention to the January 6th Capitol riot.

“I hope he has a long life as a law enforcement officer, but I hope he never has to defend the United States Capitol against Donald Trump’s supporters, and if he does, I hope he isn’t one of the six who loses his life to suicide,” Wallace stated. “And I hope he isn’t one that has to testify against the people who carried out acts of seditious conspiracy and then lived to see Donald Trump pardon those people.”
The remarks ignited outrage in right-wing media, with Trump himself adding fuel to the fire. “Frankly, what Nicolle Wallace said, I’ve never been a fan of hers,” Trump said. “But she’s not very talented. But I’ll tell you, what she said the other day about that young man is disgraceful. She should be forced to resign. And Rachel Maddow should be forced to resign.

Nobody watches her anyway, I don’t know if, it’s not possible that they pay her as much money as I hear. But certainly, she’s lost all credibility. Both of them. What they said the other day, they should be forced to resign, about that young person.”

Trump’s remarks reflect his ongoing battle with mainstream media, particularly with left-leaning networks such as MSNBC. His demand for the resignations of Wallace and Maddow underscores his strategy of attacking media figures who challenge his actions, a tactic he has frequently employed throughout his political career.
As the controversy grows, both Maddow and Wallace have yet to respond directly to Trump’s comments. However, the exchange has once again underscored the deep divisions in American media and politics.
