Lauren Boebert Defends “Pimp Cane” Remark Amid Backlash, Doubles Down on Al Green Comments

Washington, D.C. – Firebrand Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) is refusing to back down after facing backlash over her recent comments about Democratic Rep. Al Green (D-TX). During an interview Tuesday on Real America’s Voice News, Boebert stood by her remarks, dismissing criticism and reigniting controversy.

Last week, Boebert harshly criticized Green’s actions during former President Donald Trump’s address to Congress. “Al Green was given multiple opportunities to stand down, to sit down, to behave, to show decorum. And he did not,” Boebert stated. “For him to go and shake his pimp cane at President Trump was absolutely abhorrent,” she added.

The remarks triggered swift condemnation, with critics accusing Boebert of using racist and derogatory language, particularly in her description of Green’s walking cane. The 77-year-old congressman, who is Black, has long used a gold-plated cane, which Boebert referred to in a way that many found offensive, told Newsweek.

In response, Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) introduced a resolution on Monday to censure Boebert, calling her remarks “disparaging and derogatory.” “After my discussion on the House floor last week when Speaker Johnson told me he’d have to censure half the members if he actually enforced the rules of Congress, I decided to help, and tonight introduced a resolution to censure Representative Boebert for her racist and derogatory statements about Representative Al Green (D-TX),” Houlahan stated.

Despite the pushback, Boebert remained defiant in her interview on Real America’s Voice, insisting she had no regrets. “I stand by it,” she said, before questioning whether Green actually needs his cane for mobility. “I have never actually seen Al Green use his cane as a support to walk. I have seen him shake it for years all throughout the Capitol during any meeting that I’ve ever been present with him in.”

Doubling down on her remarks, Boebert added, “If that gold-plated cane isn’t a pimp cane, I don’t know what is.” The Colorado congresswoman, who recently secured reelection after switching districts, then suggested that Houlahan might be the one exhibiting bias. “Are only Blacks pimps? Is that what I’m hearing? Are there no cisgender white pimps in America?” Boebert asked.

The controversy marks another instance of Boebert’s combative political style, which has frequently drawn national attention. With a censure resolution looming, the debate over her rhetoric continues to intensify in Congress.
