Right-wing commentator Laura Loomer intensified accusations against Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) this week, alleging that Crockett “physically attacked and assaulted” one of her reporters inside the U.S. Capitol building. Loomer claims the incident occurred when reporter Charles Downs attempted to question the congresswoman.
Expressing her outrage on social media, Loomer stated emphatically, “Do NOT put your hands on my staff,” adding that a formal police report had already been filed against Crockett. “We are pressing charges against her,” Loomer confirmed on Tuesday.

Loomer further stirred controversy with a video she posted online, depicting Downs approaching Crockett and aggressively thrusting his camera phone towards her face as she walked through the Capitol halls. In response, Crockett is seen briefly raising her hand to block the camera’s view before the footage abruptly cuts off.
Yet, Loomer continued to escalate her accusations against Crockett, asserting the Democrat attempted “to violently steal” Downs’ cell phone and alleging that Crockett’s “long finger nails scratched his hand, leaving a red mark and indentations from her nails on the top of his hand.” Loomer’s claims swiftly drew attention, fueling further partisan tensions on social media, according to Newsweek.
“It’s clear elected Democrats have embraced violence against Trump supporters and members of the independent media, even in the halls of Congress,” Loomer argued in her social media post.
The conservative influencer has since called for immediate disciplinary actions, urging House Speaker Mike Johnson to officially censure Crockett “for her incitement of violence and her actual violence in the halls of Congress.” Loomer also sharply criticized Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN), who accompanied Crockett during the incident, accusing him of failing to intervene or acknowledge the altercation.

“He is a witness to the assault,” Loomer emphasized. Reporter Charles Downs confirmed his version of the event, asserting he filed a complaint with Capitol Police, accusing Crockett of assault, battery, and attempted theft of his cell phone. Downs detailed his grievance publicly, asserting it occurred “simply because I respectfully asked her to condemn the violence she has been inciting at @Tesla Showrooms.”
As Capitol Police review the report, the incident underscores an increasingly contentious political atmosphere, highlighting the ongoing friction between lawmakers, media, and activists within the heated political landscape.
