Charlamagne Tha God Laughs Off Lara Trump’s Defense of Donald Trump on Racism Allegations

Radio host Charlamagne Tha God couldn’t help but laugh during a recent interview with Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee, as she defended her father-in-law, Donald Trump, against allegations of racism. During her appearance on Monday’s episode of The Breakfast Club, Lara confidently claimed that she had never seen Donald Trump make any racist remarks.
The topic came up when the co-hosts brought up various incidents in which Donald Trump had been accused of racism, including his stance on the Central Park Five and his false claims about Barack Obama’s citizenship. Lara dismissed the allegations as “ridiculous.”
“That’s ridiculous. I’ve known this man for 16 years,” she said, according to The Daily Beast. She continued, “There was never any proof of anything with the houses; they settled that. There was no admission of anything there.” Her comments referred to the racial discrimination lawsuit involving Trump’s real estate company, though Donald Trump never apologized for his inflammatory remarks about the Central Park Five, even after they were exonerated.
Despite this, Lara insisted, “Donald Trump really was very beneficial to the Black community when he was in the White House. I will say I’ve never seen this man say a racist thing,” as reported by Mediaite. Charlamagne Tha God found her statement amusing, chuckling off-camera. Lara, visibly confused by his reaction, stopped speaking and asked, “Why is that funny, Charlamagne?” The host responded, “It’s hysterical because people act like there’s no such thing as Google, or we don’t have TV or we don’t have radio.”
The conversation grew tense as Lara asked him to provide examples of Donald Trump’s supposed racist comments. In response, the show aired several controversial remarks made by Donald Trump over the years, including his 2015 statement in which he claimed that Mexicans crossing the border were “bringing drugs” and were “rapists.”
Despite these examples, Lara defended her father-in-law, describing him as someone beloved by many across the country and highlighting his friendships with people of all backgrounds. She pointed to his signing of a bipartisan bill that allocated $250 million annually to historically Black colleges and universities as evidence of his support for the Black community.
She also argued that labeling Trump as racist had become a convenient way to attack Republicans, insisting that his goal was for everyone, including Black and Hispanic Americans, to succeed. Charlamagne then challenged her, asking how she could expect minorities to ignore the hurtful things Donald Trump had said about them. Lara responded by stressing that Trump’s remarks were about illegal immigration, not specific groups of people and that his comments were often misrepresented.
She stood by her belief that her father-in-law’s opposition to illegal immigration was frequently misunderstood and misconstrued. Despite the hosts’ attempts to dive deeper into the racism allegations, Lara repeatedly dismissed the accusations as baseless, maintaining that Donald Trump’s comments were taken out of context.
