“so aggressive” Katy Tur Describes “Mean Girls” Moment in Trump Trial Courtroom
MSNBC host Katy Tur described a “Mean Girls” moment unfolding in the courtroom where Donald Trump is on trial. Trump faces 34 felony counts in Manhattan, related to the falsification of business records in a hush-money scheme aimed at silencing a story about a sexual relationship.
George Conway, a vocal Trump critic and founder of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project, has been a frequent presence in the courtroom. Conway, the ex-husband of former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, has reportedly made eye contact with Trump on several occasions, deliberately aiming to unsettle him. Trump’s irritation was evident when he responded on Truth Social by posting a photo of Conway in a MAGA hat, appearing upset over Trump’s victory. Like many Republicans, Conway initially supported Trump but later became disillusioned by his actions.
On Thursday morning, Trump’s Republican allies, including Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), were present in the courtroom. Boebert was noted for glaring at Conway, and Trump’s spokeswoman Alina Habba escalated the situation further, according to Tur’s report.
“Can I just tell you about a moment with [Reps.] Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Lauren Boebert? They walk in, and they turn to each other, and there was a moment where they both looked back,” Tur recalled. “And then the two rows of the defense lawyers and guests turned back, and they’re just looking at George Conway. Basically saying to each other, it seems, ‘What is he doing here?'”
“Later on,” she said it was more confrontational.
“Gaetz wasn’t in the courtroom any longer, and neither was Boebert,” Tur continued. “They were doing a press conference outside. But Alina Habba was. And she and Eric Trump both looked back and saw George Conway, and said something to each other, and smirked and kind of made gestures to one another. And then, for the lunch break, they walk out, and Alina Habba just struts over and just gives this glare to George Conway, right in his face. “
She said that it came off as “so aggressive” in the room because Conway was just sitting there, and the rest of the press gallery was stunned to see what was happening. It was just such a surprising moment — the sort of thing you only see in the courtroom.” “It did feel like a ‘Mean Girls’ moment, where you just had this crowd behind Donald Trump, who, I don’t know, it’s like looking over at the other lunch table in the lunch room,” said Tur.
During a broadcast, co-host Chris Jansing referenced Tur’s comparison of the scene to a moment from the film “Mean Girls,” which depicts the rivalries among high school girls. Tur elaborated on the comparison, saying, “It did feel like a ‘Mean Girls’ moment, where you just had this crowd behind Donald Trump, who, I don’t know, it’s like looking over at the other lunch table in the lunch room.”
Tur’s analogy paints a vivid picture of the tense and somewhat petty atmosphere in the courtroom, where political and personal rivalries play out amidst serious legal proceedings. The dynamics reflect the high stakes and emotional intensity surrounding the trial, with key figures from both sides making their presence and sentiments clearly known.
