Kamala Harris Quietly Bows Out of 2028 Race as Democrats Debate Her Future

Kamala Harris has reportedly taken herself out of contention for leading the Democratic ticket after her 2024 presidential election loss to Donald Trump, according to an anonymous party donor. The former vice president has largely stayed out of the public eye since running for the Oval Office in 2024 following Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race.

“I think she’s done at the top of the ticket. I think the country will not have moved in a progressive direction during that time, it will have become more conservative,” an anonymous Democratic Party donor told ABC News.

However, other donors remain optimistic about Harris’ political future. Democratic donor Areva Martin believes Harris still has the potential for a comeback. “She’s proven she has staying power. When people think she can’t recover, she’s proven her ability to do so,” Martin stated.

Lawyer and Democratic donor Judith Barnett also expressed unwavering support for Harris. “My opinion and my dedication to her haven’t changed one iota. I believe she’s one of the most talented, brilliant, kind, empathetic people that I have met in all my time in politics,” Barnett told the publication.

Discussing Harris’ potential candidacy for California governor, Barnett added, “I would think running for governor, running the 5th largest economy in the world, would be a good move. It’s not my decision … it’s all hers. But I think it’s a wonderful step.”

Asif Mahmood, who led Asian outreach for Harris’ 2019 campaign, pointed to the trajectory of former President Ronald Reagan as a potential roadmap for her future. “Reagan ran for president. He lost, came back to California, served his state as governor, went back and ran for president, and won twice,” Mahmood noted.

Meanwhile, Democratic fundraiser Michael Kempner hesitated to weigh in on the matter. “I don’t know if I would get involved at this point even if God were running. … I think it’s going to be tough for any Democrat to raise any money. There is little enthusiasm,” Kempner stated.

This discussion comes as some Democratic insiders have criticized Harris’ absence from the spotlight, with RadarOnline reporting that one insider described her as “MIA.” The source also took aim at Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, for insisting she remains the leader of the Democratic Party.

“The person you just spent $2 billion on trying to elect? I’m glad she’s having a good time going to a musical and being repped by CAA. But this whole strategy of ‘Do not do anything, or say anything’—that’s not the kind of leadership the world needs right now,” the source said.

With speculation swirling about Harris’ next political move, opinions remain divided on whether she will reclaim a prominent role in national politics or shift her focus to California’s governorship.
