On Monday night’s episode of The Daily Show, comedian Jon Stewart opened his monologue by poking fun at Donald Trump’s unusual campaign antics, specifically his recent appearance at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania. As the 2024 election approaches, Stewart quipped that the political landscape feels increasingly “surreal,” teasing that “this campaign cannot get any weirder.”

Stewart began by showing a clip of Trump’s visit to McDonald’s, where the former president joked, “My first day at McDonald’s. I’m looking for a job. So, if you don’t mind, I want to work the French fry counter.”

In response, Stewart humorously implored, “Give him the job. I don’t care if his references don’t shake out. Save democracy, give him the job.” The crowd erupted in laughter and applause as Stewart emphasized his satirical plea.

While discussing Trump’s recent campaign trail activities, Stewart noted that the former president seemed to be relishing his time on the road. “He’s out there having the time of his life,” Stewart remarked. “That’s his whole campaign right now. ‘Ave Maria’ dance party, ‘I’m going to deport everybody,’ football tailgate, blame the Jews if I lose, McDonald’s drive-thru. He’s out there having the time of his life.”

Stewart then turned his attention to the media’s coverage of Trump’s fast food stunt. He played a clip of an MSNBC analyst criticizing Trump’s fast food appearance, describing it as “inept” and claiming that Trump would be “incapable” of working a fryer. Stewart took this moment to mock both the media’s outrage and the criticism itself.

“Look, I’m all for criticizing Donald Trump, but I got to tell you, I also don’t know how to work the fryer at McDonald’s and would be incapable of doing so,” Stewart joked, drawing more laughter from his audience.

As the monologue continued, Stewart reflected on the absurdity of the current political climate, saying, “We’ve lost the ability to understand what level of outrage to even demonstrate.” He suggested that the media is struggling to decide what to focus their frustration on, but added, “It probably shouldn’t be the McDonald’s thing.”

Stewart closed by poking fun at another bizarre moment from Trump’s campaign — his lewd remarks about golfer Arnold Palmer. With his signature wit, Stewart quipped, “First of all, I’m not here to fact-check the former president, but Arnold Palmer wasn’t all man. He was half man, half lemonade.”

In Stewart’s eyes, the 2024 campaign has entered a realm where humor and absurdity dominate, leaving viewers to wonder what strange moment will come next.
