Ilhan Omar Claps Back at GOP Critics: Calls Republican Attacks Embarrassing and Idiotic

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is once again at the center of a heated political storm after remarks she made during an interview with progressive journalist Mehdi Hasan sparked backlash from conservatives. According to a Sky News report on Monday, February 24, Omar has been the target of intense criticism on social media, particularly from Republican lawmakers, after defending her stance on key political issues.

One of her most vocal critics, Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL), claimed her comments were a “losing strategy” for the Democratic Party. Omar, however, did not hesitate to respond. Retweeting Steube’s remark, she wrote: “Majority of Americans are smart hardworking people but people like you who fall for every lie make Americans look dumb and stupid.”

She then took aim at Republicans and supporters of President Donald Trump, adding: “Also, hate to inform you but Republicans or the people who voted for the criminal in the White House do not make up the majority of our country.” Omar has also been facing personal attacks from GOP figures, including Texas Congressman Brandon Gill, who recently suggested that the country would be better off if she were “deported.”

During her interview with Hasan, the journalist asked Omar how she responded to such extreme rhetoric. “I thought I’d seen everything and I’ve seen a lot of attacks on you, but now you have a Republican colleague in the House saying to deport an American citizen, an American lawmaker, an elected representative—how do you deal with that?” Hasan asked.

Omar did not hold back in her response. “These people are just idiots,” she stated. “I’m at the point where it’s become really hard to have an intellectual debate with any of these people because the level of stupidity they are displaying every single day is frankly embarrassing—not just in Congress but as Americans.”

She continued her criticism, calling out Trump and his supporters. “The fact that these people are allowed to say just the most ridiculous things tells you that the dumbing of the United States has arrived, because how else do we get a Trump presidency again?”

Omar’s comments immediately drew outrage from conservative figures and social media users on X, with many accusing her of being divisive. While she remains steadfast in her position, the clash highlights the deepening political divide as the 2024 election looms.
