Amazon’s upcoming Melania Trump documentary, set for release in the second half of 2025, has already drawn significant backlash, with many onlookers expressing their disinterest in the project.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service has officially licensed what it described as a documentary about the former and future first lady. The news of the project, which will reportedly be executive produced by Melania Trump herself, has been met with ridicule from various figures on social media.

Jon Cooper, former Long Island campaign chairman for former President Barack Obama, was among the most vocal critics. He took to social media to express his distaste, saying, “I’d rather stick needles in my eyes than watch the upcoming film about Melania Trump’s life — which Melania herself will be executive producing.” He followed up by asking, “How about you?”

Russell Drew, a self-described “political junkie,” shared his skepticism, stating, “I assume that any biography or documentary about Melania Trump’s life will be listed under fiction or the adults-only section.” Drew then went on to downplay her life story: “She’s really not all that interesting. She was a model who married a rich guy 25 years her senior. I don’t really care, do you?”

Others took aim at the project’s director, noting that “The film’s director has been accused of sexual assault by multiple Hollywood figures,” which added another layer of controversy to the documentary. Former prosecutor Ron Filipkowski also weighed in with a more lighthearted question, asking, “Who will play Melania in her Amazon life story movie?”

Novelist and playwright Paul Rudnick, known for his Broadway work, offered a humorous take on the documentary. “Melania is executive producing a documentary on her life for Amazon,” Rudnick quipped. “The film will include scenes of her: – Getting into limos – Narrowing her eyes – Giving a poor person all of Ivanka’s clothes – Being greeted with a musical number at Deutsche Bank – Almost reading a book.”

With its scheduled release still years away, the Melania Trump documentary is already a lightning rod for criticism and ridicule, with many questioning its relevance and content.
