Fetterman Breaks Ranks, Dems Meltdown: Bombshell Report Says 2024 Loss Could Be Just the Beginning

A sweeping new Politico report reveals deep frustration and calls for a reckoning within the Democratic Party following their bruising losses in the 2024 election. Insiders are acknowledging that the party must confront its failures and make substantial changes — or risk sliding into long-term minority status.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), known for his blunt political style, has recently drawn criticism from within his own party after siding with some Republicans and even former President Donald Trump on certain issues. According to the report, “he has been ostracized from the party for his seeming apostasy.” But Fetterman is unapologetic and sounding the alarm.

“We really got our a–es kicked, and especially in the Senate,” Fetterman told Politico. “We could have been left a gigantic, smoking hole in the ground. We could have easily lost Michigan, Nevada, and Wisconsin, and we could be staring down 56-44. And if we don’t get our s–t together, then we are going to be in a permanent minority.”

One of the most divisive issues within the party is immigration. The report notes that many Democrats who once turned to progressive immigration advocates are now rethinking that strategy. Lanae Erickson of the center-left group Third Way pointed out that the party must reassess how it talks about and handles the issue.

The situation is compounded by troubling data from progressive pollster David Shor, whose post-election analysis warns that the Democrats’ path forward is shrinking. According to the report, “Young voters have become more Republican. Trump likely won foreign-born voters. The electorate trusts the GOP more than Democrats on Social Security. Higher turnout wouldn’t have saved Harris; in fact, it would have made Trump win by a larger margin.”

Despite the stinging losses, some Democrats believe they’ll reclaim the House in 2026. But Politico warns that this optimism may be premature. “Watching the GOP enrage the electorate is also enabling them to continue avoiding hard conversations, and perhaps obscuring the need to have a reckoning.”

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) echoed that concern. “I think it would be a massive mistake not to come out of this election and make changes,” he said. “Everyone said we would win the House this year. Now people are saying, ‘Oh, well, we’ll surely win the House in the midterms.’ That’s a very dangerous assumption when we lose across the board.”
