Dick Morris, the former adviser to former President Bill Clinton, has suggested that there is a “good chance” for a 2024 rematch between Hillary Clinton and former President Donald Trump, The New York Post reported.
Morris said in a radio interview that if the Democrats lose control of Congress in the midterm elections, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will be as good as gone.
In Morris’s mind, this clears the way for another Hillary bid with her husband conducting her strategy.
“There’s a good chance of it,” said Morris. “Hillary has set up a brilliant strategy that nobody else is able to do.
“Knowing the people around her, I believe there is only one person capable of that level of thinking—and that’s her husband, Bill.”
Meanwhile, at a time when no Democrats are publicly criticizing Biden, Clinton has been warning her party about aligning itself with the policies of progressive Democrats.
”She has set up a zero-sum game where the worse [Biden] does, the better she does because she’s positioned herself as the Democratic alternative to Biden,” Morris said. “Not just to Biden, but to the extreme left in the Democratic Party.”
Hillary has slowly worked her way back into the spotlight, featuring in interviews that show her as pragmatic, level-headed, and slightly sympathetic due to her loss.
An op-ed appeared in the Wall Street Journal making the case for another Clinton run:
“She is already in an advantageous to become the 2024 Democratic nominee.” wrote Democrat political consultant Doug Schoen.
“She is an experienced national figure who is younger than Mr. Biden and can offer a different approach from the disorganized and unpopular one the party is currently taking.”
Hillary Clinton is 74 years old; Joe Biden is 79.
Trump has not officially announced a 2024 run. There is some speculation that he is waiting until after the midterms to go public.
